Anna Prucnal

Biography

Anna Prucnal (born 17 December 1940) is a Polish actress in both cinema and theatre, as well as a singer. Prucnal was born in Warsaw, Poland. After her father, a surgeon, was killed by the Nazis during World War II, Anna and her sister were raised by their mother, who was of noble descent and related to the 18th-century King of Poland Stanislas Leszczyński. After studying piano and lyrical song, Anna Prucnal went on an acting career at the Studencki Teatr Satyryków, in Warsaw. Prucnal first appeared in a movie at the age of twenty-two in the film “Sun and Shadow” (Slăntzeto i siankata), a popular release. In 1970, Prucnal moved to France and embarked upon a theatrical career, appearing in a number of plays by Bertolt Brecht. She worked with many important directors including Jorge Lavelli, Georges Wilson, Roger Planchon, Jean-Louis Barrault, Marc’O, Petrika Ionesco, Lucian Pintilie and Jacques Lassalle. She also appeared in several notable films, the most notorious of which was Dusan Makavejev's “Sweet Movie”, which Polish authorities deemed to be pornographic and anticommunist. As a result, Anna was banned from using her Polish passport, effectively exiling her from her homeland. During the 1970s, Anna developed her career as a singer. Her album “Dream of West, Dream of East” was popular, initially in France, then Belgium, worldwide and, finally, in Warsaw in 1989… to celebrate the bicentenary of the French Revolution, and representing a homecoming of sorts for Anna. Prucnal has continued to release records (such as “Monsieur Brecht” in 2006), and act in movies (“Wimbledon Stage” in 2001) and TV, as well as appearing on stage in the acclaimed play “The Vagina Monologues” in 2005. In 2002, Prucnal published her autobiography (not yet translated in English) entitled “Moi qui suis née à Varsovie” (“I, who was born in Warsaw”), co-authored with Jean Mailland. Peggy Rea

Biography

Peggy Jane Rea was a Los Angeles-born American actress known for her many roles in television, often playing matronly characters. Before she became an actress, Rea left UCLA to attend business school. She landed a job as a production secretary at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in the 1940s. Later, she was an assistant to writer-musician Kay Thompson until Thompson dropped her in April 1948. Some of the points of discord apparently included Rea's insistence on staying at the Algonquin Hotel (rather than Essex House, where Thompson was staying), and disappearing, on at least one occasion, on the eve of their New York opening to see Born Yesterday on Broadway without telling Thompson. The time had come for Peggy to make her mark as the character actress she was born to be. She quickly landed on her feet with a supporting role in the National Road Company production of Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire (as Eunice Hubbell, 1948–1949) starring Anthony Quinn. Thompson severed ties with Rea, however the younger woman kept in touch with other members of Thompson's family, including Thompson's mother, brother and younger sister, with whom she enjoyed cordial relations.

From this failure, Gillet drew motivation declaring: "This period of hardship I went through there forced me to reflect and made me mature. I returned to France with the 'niaque': no more dilemmas, I want to play. I changed my life." He first appeared on stage in the title role of Caligula, in a celebrated staging by Charles Berling. When asked why he chose to write the song Andy, I Love You (French: Andy, Je T'aime) and have him acting in the music video, Michelini declared: "Because I love Andy. Andy, he's the man I love. This name came to me before I even made music. Andy is a muse: not just mine, a lot of people's muse. For me it was a waste to live with a muse and not do anything with it." Christian Bach

Biography

In her childhood she studied ballet and jazz, later, as a teenager, she began to take acting classes and from the age of 16 she captured the attention of producers. In spite of dedicating herself to the artistic medium, the actress decided to study law, where she had a professional training, which she complemented with the learning of English, French and Russian. At the end of her career, she worked in the Argentinean soap opera El amor tiene cara de mujer, at which time Valentín Pimstein, a renowned Chilean producer of Mexican soap operas, who was in Argentina, discovered Bach's talent. After two years of negotiations, the producer convinced Christian Bach to travel to Mexico to have some participations in the soap opera Veronica, in 1979. Later, she was included in the second stage of Los ricos también lloran, where she played Edith González's mother. The actress continued with firm steps with Colorina y Soledad, a production in which she met the man who would become her husband, Humberto Zurita, a person who, besides becoming her partner, began to accompany her professionally. Another of her most outstanding projects was Bodas de Odio, in 1984, where she played Magdalena Mendoza, a young woman who is in love with a modest soldier, but is forced by her mother to marry a man of high society. Years after this melodrama ended, producer Ernesto Alonso would give her the dress she wore in the finale of this telenovela so that she could marry Humberto Zurita in real life in 1996. In 1996, another success would come to her career but as a producer, Cañaveral de Pasiones was placed in the first places of audience with this story starring Daniela Castro, Juan Soler and Francisco Gattorno. In this telenovela, her son Sebastián Zurita would make his artistic debut. In Televisa she produced Bajo un mismo rostro, telenovela with which she would say goodbye to the company and would begin to have one of the most important changes in her life at a professional level, moving to TV Azteca. At TV Azteca she would begin one of Christian's most ambitious projects, La chacala, where she participated as producer and protagonist, playing three characters: Hilda, Liliana and Delia. After finishing, she continued behind the scenes with Azul Tequila, where she gave her first opportunity to Bárbara Mori, with El candidato and La calle de las novias. After almost four years of not starring in a telenovela, she reappeared in Agua y Aceite with Humberto Zurita, the last project of the production company Zuba, a partnership between the couple. After finishing this project, the couple decided to travel to Miami, United States, where they lived. In 2017, Bach and her husband announced her retirement from the screen. By that time, the actress's health was deteriorated by a rare degenerative disease. Her last years were spent with her family at home. Bach passed away on February 26, 2019, in Mexico City, Mexico, due to a respiratory arrest. Her two sons -Emiliano and Sebastián- are owners of the production company Addiction House projects.

Geoffrey Weeks

Biography

Geoffrey Weeks (1922-1974) was a Hong Kong based radio host with Hong Kong's Television and Radio's Radio 3 station. He is best known for his small but memorable role as the ill-fated Brad in the 1973 martial arts classic Enter the Dragon, starring Bruce Lee. Weeks was born in Hong Kong in 1922. He was a gifted student and excelled in academics, but his true passion was radio broadcasting. In the early 1950s, he joined Radio 3 and quickly became one of the station's most popular hosts. He was known for his wit, charm, and encyclopedic knowledge of music and popular culture. In 1973, Weeks was approached by Bruce Lee to play a small role in his upcoming film, Enter the Dragon. Weeks was initially hesitant to take the role, as he had no prior acting experience. However, he was eventually persuaded by Lee's vision for the film and his own enthusiasm for the project. Weeks' role as Brad is relatively small, but it is one of the most memorable in the film. Brad is a British drug smuggler who is killed by Lee's character, Lee. Weeks' performance is both understated and menacing, and he perfectly captures the character's arrogance and disdain for Lee. Sadly, Weeks passed away just a few weeks after filming of Enter the Dragon was completed. He was 52 years old. His death was a shock to his colleagues and fans, and he is still remembered as one of Hong Kong's most beloved radio personalities.
