The biographical drama directed by Mick Jackson describes the childhood and adolescence of Temple Grandin, an autistic woman who devoted herself to the study of mental states and behaviors in both animals and people with social adaptation problems. Her innovations revolutionized practices for the humane handling of livestock on slaughterhouses and cattle ranches. Thanks to the tireless faith of family, friends and teachers, Temple overcame almost hopeless internal and external barriers, made a brilliant scientific career, wrote many works on psychology and zootechnics, translating her knowledge into a number of inventions that have been widely used in both fields. Temple Grandin conveys the depth and breadth of the woman’s heroism when she is faced with the ignorance of the cattle industry. Clare Danes stunningly plays the title role with grace. She masterfully highlights Temple’s gifts along with her differences and struggles. Throughout the movie, the audience can see the world through the eyes of Temple, which encourages it to consider that autism is not really an obstacle to overcome but a gift that allows people to see the world like no one else can. It was autism that allowed Temple to come up with a humane treatment for animals in the cattle industry. It was also possible thanks to the crucial support temple received from her mother, Eustacia, her aunt Ann, and her science teacher Dr. Carlock, who recognized the woman’s potential. Temple Grandin is a brilliant movie about a brilliant woman. It is a wonderful life-affirming film that proves that everyone can succeed in their life. And it leaves a very pleasant sensation, even though the main achievement seems to be improving the lives of the cows in the slaughterhouses. If you dig deeper, you will discover that the fight with yourself is more important.
