Sir Thomas Sean Connery (August 25, 1930 – October 31, 2020) was a Scottish actor and producer who won an Academy Award, two BAFTA Awards (one being a BAFTA Academy Fellowship Award), and three Golden Globes, including the Cecil B. DeMille Award and a Henrietta Award. Connery was the first actor to portray the character James Bond in film, starring in seven Bond films (every film from Dr. No to You Only Live Twice, plus Diamonds Are Forever and Never Say Never Again), between 1962 and 1983. In 1988, Connery won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Untouchables. His films also include Marnie (1964), Murder on the Orient Express (1974), The Man Who Would Be King (1975), A Bridge Too Far (1977), Highlander (1986), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), The Hunt for Red October (1990), Dragonheart (1996), The Rock (1996), and Finding Forrester (2000). Connery was polled in a 2004 The Sunday Herald as "The Greatest Living Scot" and in a 2011 EuroMillions survey as "Scotland's Greatest Living National Treasure". He was voted by People magazine as both the “Sexiest Man Alive" in 1989 and the "Sexiest Man of the Century” in 1999. He received a lifetime achievement award in the United States with a Kennedy Center Honor in 1999. Connery was knighted in the 2000 New Year Honours for services to film drama. Rachid Ksentini

Biography

Rachid Ksentini (رشيد قسنطيني) real name Rachid Belakhdar, Algerian singer and theater man, born November 11, 1887 in the Casbah of Algiers and died July 4, 1944 in Algiers. He left school very early to work as an apprentice cabinetmaker with his father in Bab El Oued until 1914, originally from Constantine. On the eve of the First World War, he enlisted as a sailor in the merchant navy and left for France. The boat he boarded was torpedoed by German naval forces. The survivors were fished out by the English navy which then transferred them to Marseille. Through his profession as a sailor, he experienced Europe, North America, China and India. He returned to Algeria but for a brief stay. He returns to France. In 1925, he returned to the country and the same year met Allalou in a café, who asked him to join his theater troupe Zahia Troupe. Their collaboration resulted, among other things, in the presentation of the play “Zouadj Bou 'Akline” on October 26, 1926, which marked Rachid Ksentini's first appearance on the stage. A performance that captivated the audience. The collaboration of the two men continues with adaptations by Allalou of sequences from The Thousand and One Nights in which Rachid Ksentini obtains the leading roles. In 1927, the latter created with Djelloul Bachedjerrah, the El Djazaïr troupe which dissolved shortly after. Certainly, Rachid Ksentini has established himself especially in the theater. But, at the same time, he invested in humorous songs with a social background. Many of his songs are composed of music drawn from national heritage. He returned to work under the aegis of the music company El Moutribia, managed by Mahieddine Bachetarzi. In 1928, he wrote a play which was a great success, “Zouadj Bou Borma”. From this time, he knew a young actress, Marie Soussan, who became his companion and partner on stage. They formed an artistic couple until 1934. The sketches they performed together were very successful. Rachid Ksentini died on August 4, 1944. He was married to Marguerite Sevigné. The couple divorced shortly before the artist's death.

Daniel Harding

Biography

Harding was born in Oxford. He studied trumpet at Chetham's School of Music and was a member of the National Youth Orchestra at age 13. At age 17, Harding assembled a group of musicians to perform Pierrot Lunaire of Arnold Schoenberg, and sent a tape of the performance to Simon Rattle in Birmingham. After listening to this tape, Rattle hired Harding as an assistant to him at the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra for a year, from 1993 to 1994. Harding then attended the University of Cambridge, but after his first year at university, Claudio Abbado named him his assistant with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. Harding first conducted the Berlin Philharmonic at age 21. At the time of his first conducting appearance at The Proms in 1996, he was then the youngest-ever conductor to appear there. In 1997, Harding was the Music Director of the Ojai Music Festival alongside pianist Emanuel Ax. Harding has been music director of the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra (1997–2000), the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen (1999–2003) and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra (2003–2008). Harding now has the title of conductor laureate with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. He conducted the 2005 opening night at La Scala, Milan in Idomeneo, as a substitute after the resignation of Riccardo Muti earlier in 2005. In 2004, Harding was appointed principal guest conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra (LSO), as of 2006. One of his new projects with the LSO involved the Sound Adventures program for new compositions. With the LSO, he has conducted a commercial recording of the opera Billy Budd for EMI Classics. He became the Principal Conductor of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra in 2007. In September 2009, he extended his contract as the orchestra's principal conductor through 2012. In April 2013, the orchestra further announced the extension of Harding's contract to 2015. With the orchestra, he has recorded commercially for the Sony Classical label. In June 2015, the Orchestre de Paris announced the appointment of Harding as its 9th principal conductor, effective September 2016. Harding concluded his tenure in the Orchestre de Paris post following the close of the 2018-2019 season. In October 2018, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra announced the extension of Harding's contract as principal conductor through 2023, along with granting him the new title of konstnärlig ledare (artistic leader).

Scarborough born actor Fred Feast was best known for his role as the idle Rovers Return potman Fred Gee in the long running soap opera Coronation Street from 1975 to 1984. Prior to showbusiness, Feast was a PT instructor in the Parachute Regiment, driving instructor, butcher, trawlerman, dolphin trainer, computer systems analyst, nightclub owner, personal shopper, publican and maître d' at a Michelin star Algarve restaurant. He entered showbusiness as a variety artist and stand up comic, and appeared in TV plays such as Alan Bennett's A Day Out, Ken Loach's Days of Hope and Jack Rosenthal's Another Sunday and Sweet FA, alongside serials such as Sam and the sitcom Nearest and Dearest. He left Coronation Street in 1984 due to repeated bouts of ill health (depression) and a fear of becoming typecast or set in his ways. Instead he took on a three year stint on the BBC rural drama All Creatures Great and Small as knackerman Jeff Mallock. One of his last roles was that of Arthur the pigeon fancier in the 1998 film Little Voice, shot in his native Scarborough.
