Sean Connery

Biography

Sir Thomas Sean Connery (August 25, 1930 – October 31, 2020) was a Scottish actor and producer who won an Academy Award, two BAFTA Awards (one being a BAFTA Academy Fellowship Award), and three Golden Globes, including the Cecil B. DeMille Award and a Henrietta Award. Connery was the first actor to portray the character James Bond in film, starring in seven Bond films (every film from Dr. No to You Only Live Twice, plus Diamonds Are Forever and Never Say Never Again), between 1962 and 1983. In 1988, Connery won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Untouchables. His films also include Marnie (1964), Murder on the Orient Express (1974), The Man Who Would Be King (1975), A Bridge Too Far (1977), Highlander (1986), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), The Hunt for Red October (1990), Dragonheart (1996), The Rock (1996), and Finding Forrester (2000). Connery was polled in a 2004 The Sunday Herald as "The Greatest Living Scot" and in a 2011 EuroMillions survey as "Scotland's Greatest Living National Treasure". He was voted by People magazine as both the “Sexiest Man Alive" in 1989 and the "Sexiest Man of the Century” in 1999. He received a lifetime achievement award in the United States with a Kennedy Center Honor in 1999. Connery was knighted in the 2000 New Year Honours for services to film drama. Richard Madden

Biography

Richard Madden (born June 18, 1986) is a Scottish actor. He was cast in his first role at age 11 and made his screen acting debut in 2000. He later began performing on stage whilst a student at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. In 2007, he toured with Shakespeare's Globe company as Romeo in Romeo and Juliet, a role he reprised in the West End in 2016. Madden rose to fame with his portrayal of Robb Stark in the fantasy drama series Game of Thrones from 2011 to 2013. Madden subsequently played Prince Kit in the romantic fantasy film Cinderella (2015) and Italian banker Cosimo de' Medici in the first season of the historical fiction series Medici (2016). In 2018, he gained acclaim for his performance as a police officer in the thriller series Bodyguard, for which he won a Golden Globe Award. The following year, Madden was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time, and he had supporting roles as music manager John Reid in the biopic Rocketman and a soldier in the war film 1917. He has since starred as Ikaris in the Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero film Eternals (2021) and as a spy in the action thriller series Citadel (2023).

John Cornell

Biography

John Cornell (born 2 February 1941) a film producer, actor and businessman. An Australian icon, he was born in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. Cornell once managed Paul Hogan and often appeared alongside Hogan in his popular television show The Paul Hogan Show as Strop, a dim-witted dinkum Aussie surf lifesaver. He produced and co-wrote the screenplay for Hogan's 1986 film, Crocodile Dundee that became the highest grossing Australian film ever. He also produced and directed the successful 1988 sequel, Crocodile Dundee II. Cornell was also involved in the initial stages of World Series Cricket. He was, in fact, one of the prime-movers in the setting up of WSC, working closely with Kerry Packer and Austin Robertson. Cornell married Australian television personality Delvene Delaney with two children together, Allira and Liana. His daughter Melissa was from a previous marriage. Until its sale for a record price of $65 million in 2007, Cornell owned the Beach Hotel, the most recognised pub in Byron Bay. He had built it for $9 million in 1990.

Em Siobhan McCourt is an award-winning Canadian genderfluid actor, director, producer, and stage-combatant whose creative mandate is to bring marginalized peoples to screens around the world. Originally hailing from Edmonton, Alberta, Em graduated theatre school in Alberta with distinction, performing as both an accomplished theatre actor and fiddle player across Canada. He moved to Toronto, Ontario to dive into film in 2015. Em's debut film performance was a role in Matt Shakman's "Cut Bank," which was the first film role he ever auditioned for, and the experience he has credited with igniting his passion for screen acting. Em pursued her career as an actor beginning in her late teens, and began following the drive to create when he moved to Toronto. Training primarily with Armstrong Acting Studios, Em developed a well-honed talent for honesty and grudging vulnerability that spans comedy (Kim's Convenience, 2016), historical (Murdoch Mysteries, 2008), drama (Jupiter's Legacy, 2021) and much in between. Born in rural Alberta, Em and his family moved frequently during his childhood, living in Edmonton and Calgary, and even spending a year living in Ireland so that Em and her siblings could get to know their Irish extended-family. For years after, their friends all claimed Em and her siblings had developed deeper Irish accents. He has created with Ariadne Deibert for their joint Youtube channel 5 Minutes You'll Never Get Back, and works to promote gender diversity with her production company Vicarious Playground Productions. Em has dual citizenship with her homeland, Ireland, and currently resides in Toronto, Canada.

Jon Lord

Biography

John Douglas Lord (9 June 1941 – 16 July 2012) was an English keyboardist and composer. In 1968, Lord co-founded the hard rock band Deep Purple, and he became regarded as its leader in the early years. Lord performed on most of the band's most popular songs; he and drummer Ian Paice were the only continuous presence in the band between 1968 and 1976, and also from when it was re-established in 1984, until Lord's retirement in 2002. He also spent time in the bands Whitesnake, Paice Ashton Lord, the Artwoods, the Flower Pot Men and Santa Barbara Machine Head. Lord became known for his pioneering work in fusing rock with classical or baroque forms, especially with Deep Purple. His distinctive organ playing during Deep Purple's hard rock period was essential to the band's signature heavy sound and contributed to the early development of heavy metal. On 11 November 2010, he was inducted as an Honorary Fellow of Stevenson College in Edinburgh, Scotland. On 15 July 2011, he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Music degree at De Montfort Hall by the University of Leicester. Lord was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on 8 April 2016 as a member of Deep Purple.

Susan Orlean

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Susan Orlean (born October 31, 1955) is an American journalist. She has been a staff writer for The New Yorker since 1992, and has contributed articles to Vogue, Rolling Stone, Esquire, and Outside. Susan Orlean is the author of several books, including The Orchid Thief, a profile of Florida orchid grower, breeder, and collector John Laroche. The book formed the basis of Charlie Kaufman's script for the Spike Jonze film Adaptation. Orlean (portrayed by Meryl Streep in an Oscar-nominated role) was, in effect, made into a fictional character; the movie portrayed her as becoming Laroche's lover and partner in a drug production operation, in which orchids were processed into a fictional psychoactive substance. She also wrote the Women's Outside article, "Life's Swell" (published 1998). The article, a feature on a group of young surfer girls in Maui, was the basis of the film Blue Crush. In 1999, she co-wrote "The Skinny: What Every Skinny Woman Knows About Dieting (And Won't Tell You!)" under her married name, Susan Sistrom. Her previously published magazine stories have been compiled in two collections, The Bullfighter Checks Her Makeup: My Encounters with Extraordinary People and My Kind of Place: Travel Stories from a Woman Who's Been Everywhere. She also served as editor for Best American Essays 2005 and Best American Travel Writing 2007. She contributed the Ohio chapter in "State By State" (2008). She is currently working on a biographical history about the dog actor Rin Tin Tin, for which she recently submitted a completed manuscript to her publisher. Orlean was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and graduated from the University of Michigan. She was then a staff writer at the Portland, Oregon, weekly Willamette Week, and soon began publishing stories in Rolling Stone, Esquire, Vogue, Outside, and Spy. In 1982 she moved to Boston and became a staff writer for the Boston Phoenix and later a regular contributor to the Boston Globe Sunday Magazine. Her first book, Saturday Night, was published in 1990, shortly after she moved to New York and began writing for The New Yorker magazine. She became a New Yorker staff writer in 1992. Han Suk-kyu (한석규) is a South Korean actor. He was born on 3rd November 1964 in Seoul. During the 1990s, he was considered one of the top actors in Korean cinema with hits including Green Fish (1997), No. 3 (1997), Christmas in August (1998), and the blockbuster Shiri (1999).
