Sean Connery

Biography

Sir Thomas Sean Connery (August 25, 1930 – October 31, 2020) was a Scottish actor and producer who won an Academy Award, two BAFTA Awards (one being a BAFTA Academy Fellowship Award), and three Golden Globes, including the Cecil B. DeMille Award and a Henrietta Award. Connery was the first actor to portray the character James Bond in film, starring in seven Bond films (every film from Dr. No to You Only Live Twice, plus Diamonds Are Forever and Never Say Never Again), between 1962 and 1983. In 1988, Connery won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Untouchables. His films also include Marnie (1964), Murder on the Orient Express (1974), The Man Who Would Be King (1975), A Bridge Too Far (1977), Highlander (1986), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), The Hunt for Red October (1990), Dragonheart (1996), The Rock (1996), and Finding Forrester (2000). Connery was polled in a 2004 The Sunday Herald as "The Greatest Living Scot" and in a 2011 EuroMillions survey as "Scotland's Greatest Living National Treasure". He was voted by People magazine as both the “Sexiest Man Alive" in 1989 and the "Sexiest Man of the Century” in 1999. He received a lifetime achievement award in the United States with a Kennedy Center Honor in 1999. Connery was knighted in the 2000 New Year Honours for services to film drama. Jüri Järvet

Biography

Jüri Järvet (June 18, 1919 – July 5, 1995) was an Estonian actor. His name sometimes appears as Yuri Yevgenyevich Yarvet, an incorrect back-transliteration from the Russian transliteration Юри Евгеньевич Ярвет. His birthname was Georgi Kuznetsov, and he took the Estonian form in 1938. Järvet is best known in the West for the role of Dr. Snaut in Andrei Tarkovsky's Solaris, but he played in numerous other films both in Russian and his native Estonian. He was awarded the title of People's Artist of the USSR in 1975, and the USSR State Prize in 1981. Järvet played the title role in a powerful version of King Lear (1971) filmed on bleak landscapes in his native Estonia by Russian director Grigori Kozintsev and released in 1970. Kozintsev shared the screenwriting credit with Boris Pasternak; the score was by Dmitri Shostakovich. His son Jüri Järvet Jr. has also acted in several movies, including All My Lenins and Khrustalyov, My Car!. Maisie Richardson-Sellers is an English actress. She is known for her role as Amaya Jiwe / Charlie in DC's Legends of Tomorrow series, as well as Rebekah Mikaelson / Eva Sinclair in The CW series The Originals, and also for her starring role as the daughter of King Saul of Israel, Michal, in the ABC. She is also known for her portrayal of Korr Sella in the 2015 feature film Star Wars: The Force Awakens. His other credits include Legends of Tomorrow and Of Kings and Prophets. Daughter of stage actor Joy Richardson, she grew up in England and performed in many plays during her youth. Before launching her acting career in the cinema, she obtained degrees in anthropology and archeology at the University of Oxford. She and Joseph Morgan are both known for their work in The Originals. In 2015, she entered production for the upcoming ABC series Of Kings And Prophets.

Carl Banas

Carl Banas, born on January 23, 1929 in Toronto, is a retired radio personality and actor. He is well-known for his voice roles in popular shows like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Rocket Robin Hood, and The Raccoons: Let’s Dance! Apart from his voice acting career, Carl Banas also appeared on television as a police detective named Byron James in the series Wojeck. He lent his voice to various TV series and features, showcasing his talent and versatility. In addition to his on-screen work, Banas was a beloved radio personality on different Toronto radio stations. His deep voice, smooth manner, and captivating stories about Toronto made him a favorite among listeners. Banas also made his mark in the world of commercials and cartoons, recording voices for numerous TV advertisements and animated shows. Interestingly, he is one of the three surviving cast members from Spider-Man, along with Paul Soles (Spider-Man) and Alfie Scopp (Stan Patterson). All three of them also lent their voices to Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, with Banas portraying the head elf among other characters.

A native of Guangdong born in Shanghai on 8 October 1931, Ho Fan came to Hong Kong at the age of 18 and studied in The Evening School of Higher Chinese Studies and New Asia College. Ho has dedicated much of his time to literature and photography since his school days. His photography was well-known for using light, shadow and composition to create a sense of drama, capturing the appearance of small people in Hong Kong, and has won numerous international awards. He passed away in California on 19 June 2016.

Linda Lin Dai

Biography

Linda Lin Dai (Chinese: 林黛; 26 December 1934 – 17 July 1964), born Cheng Yueru (程月如), was a Chinese actress of Hong Kong films made in Mandarin during the 1950s–60s. She was a star actress of the Shaw Brothers Studio. She was the daughter of Cheng Siyuan (程思遠), the secretary of the KMT Chinese President Li Zongren, and Vice Chairman of the CPPCC. Lin Dai was awarded the Best Actress at the Asia Pacific Film Festival four times for her performances in films produced by Shaw Studio. While she attended short courses on drama and linguistics at Columbia University, New York in 1958, she met and fell in love with Long Shengxun, the son of Long Yun who was a former governor of China's Yunnan province. They married on 12 February 1961 in Hong Kong. She committed suicide at home in Hong Kong in July 1964, using an overdose of sleeping pills and inhalation of methane gas, due to family matters referred by the media as "trivial". Her death shocked the Chinese community. She left behind two unfinished films, The Lotus Lamp and Blue And Black (I and II).

Betty Loh Ti (Chinese: 樂蒂, 24 July 1937 – 27 December 1968), also known as Le Di or Loh Tih, was a Hong Kong actress originally from Shanghai. Known as the "Classic Beauty", she was one of the most celebrated actresses of Hong Kong cinema. She is most famous for her roles in the 1960 film The Enchanting Shadow, for which she was called "China's most beautiful actress" by the jury of the 1960 Cannes Film Festival, and The Love Eterne, which earned her the Golden Horse Award for Best Leading Actress in 1963. She died from barbiturate overdose at the age of 31.

Art Smith

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Arthur Gordon "Art" Smith (March 23, 1899 – February 24, 1973) was an American film, stage and television actor, best known for playing supporting roles in the 1940s. Born in Chicago, he was a member of the Group Theatre and performed in many of their productions, including Rocket to the Moon, Awake and Sing!, Golden Boy and Waiting for Lefty, all by Clifford Odets; House of Connelly by Paul Green; and Sidney Kingsley's Men in White. The gray-haired actor usually played studious and dignified types in films, such as doctors or butlers. Smith appeared in many black-and-white noirish films in supporting roles alongside more handsome and popular movie leads, such as John Garfield in Body and Soul (1947) and Humphrey Bogart in In a Lonely Place (1950). He had a key role as a federal agent in 1947's Ride the Pink Horse, starring and directed by Robert Montgomery. Two of these films, In a Lonely Place and Ride a Pink Horse, were based on novels by Dorothy B. Hughes. Smith was one of the victims of the Hollywood blacklist, which ended most of his film career in 1952. In 1957, he originated the role of Doc in the stage version of West Side Story. Smith only returned occasionally to the film business, for example in an uncredited part in The Hustler. He also worked on television before retiring in 1967. He died, aged 73, in Long Island, New York, from a heart attack.

Russell Hodgkinson

Biography

Russell was born on Homestead Air Force Base and grew up in St. Petersburg, Florida. His first acting experience came in 7th grade, playing the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz. He continued acting throughout high school, passing up a theatre arts scholarship to join the Army after becoming a father his senior year. Peace time provided a unique opportunity as he soon began performing regularly at the esteemed Fort Bragg Playhouse. By the end of his enlistment he had earned his Actor's Equity card and moved to New York City. In 1986 he reenlisted in the Coast Guard, joining the crew of the USCG Cutter Sassafras in Hawaii. During off duty hours he studied at the Honolulu Film Actor's Workshop before being transferred to Long Beach, California where he met his wife actress Shelley Poncy. In 1992 the couple moved to Louisiana, where they became fixtures on the New Orleans stage. They moved to Seattle in 2003, Russell resumed his theatre career and became active in the Independent film scene. In 2014 he was cast to play 'Doc' on the SyFy original series 'Z Nation'.

Isabel Sanford (born Eloise Gwendolyn Sanford; August 29, 1917 – July 9, 2004) was an American stage, film, and television actress and comedian best known for her role as Louise "Weezy" Mills Jefferson on the CBS sitcoms All in the Family (1971–1975) and The Jeffersons (1975–1985). In 1981, she became the second African-American actress to win a Primetime Emmy Award after Gail Fisher, and so far, the only African-American actress to win for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.
