The Devil All the Time is an adaptation of the same name novel by Donald Ray Pollock, published in 2011. The events of the novel take place in 1945-1965 in West Virginia and South Ohio. The Devil All the Time is an incredibly grueling and down-to-earth film that tells a horror story that ties several families in the US Midwest's depressed towns. It is worth watching primarily because of the impressive cast assembled by director Antonio Campos and producer Jake Gyllenhaal. The cast includes Tom Holland, Harry Melling, Bill Skarsgård, Riley Keough, Jason Clarke, Sebastian Stan, Haley Bennett, Eliza Scanlen, with Mia Wasikowska and Robert Pattinson. The film's events cover the period from the end of World War II to the beginning of the Vietnam War. And although there are numerous deaths, ruthless killers, and a corrupt sheriff, this is more likely not a зsychological thriller, but just a drama. The film tells about the Evil that lives in people, not introduced by some external factors, but their inherent desire to hurt others. The Devil All the Time is a very leisurely film. Its timing is more than two hours. Although this length can be quite tiring, it is justified because the film tells about the key events in the lives of two generations of the Russell, Laferty, Henderson, and Bodecker families.
