Jeena Yahan is a 1979 Bollywood film, directed by Basu Chatterjee and produced by N.P. Ali under Jamu Pictures. The film is based on story Ekhane Aakash Neyi by Manu Bhandari. Lekha marries Shekhar, who does not belong to her caste, and lives happily with him in Mumbai. When they visit his village, she learns that his sister is in love but is forced to marry someone else.

Kanpur-based, pregnant Geeta Bhargav lives a wealthy lifestyle with her husband, Balwant, and three children: Shrikant, Arun and Usha. Her alcoholic and womanizing husband is arrested for killing a bodyguard of a Courtesan and is sentenced to 20 years in prison. She is then accused of luring men into her house and is asked to move on. Homeless, on the verge of starvation, she is unable to feed her family, and Usha passes away. She decides to become a widow, gets shelter, a job, and has Shrikant enrolled in a hostel. Then her luck changes when she is adopted by wealthy J.S. Archarya, and gives birth to Kirti. She explains her situation to Archarya, who wills her his entire estate and subsequently passes away.

Madhu (Sachin) and Malti (Sarika) are college students, who are assigned by their professor, Anil Sharma, to play the title parts in a college play based on Romeo and Juliet. His brother Dominic who thinks it's better to be jobless than to work an underpaid job, his patient sister Joan who works at a sari shop, his independent girlfriend Stella who feels under-appreciated by her boyfriend, his father and his colleagues, client and Stella's family. The film is very much a social commentary about Middle-class life in Bombay during the late ’70s and the conflicts arising in the labour force because workers were getting severely underpaid.

And soon Rosie starts looking elsewhere for a son-in-law, while Tony is still reluctant to make any commitments.

In order to improve their lifestyle, Lucknow based Ghulam Hussain decides to re-locate to Bombay, leaving his ailing mother and wife, Khairun, behind. He arrives in Bombay, and looks up his close friend, Lalulal Tiwari, who gets him a job of cleaning taxis. Ghulam subsequently learns how to drive, and is hired to drive a taxi. Despite his best efforts he is unable to save enough money to visit Lucknow. Lalulal has problems of his own, inspite of being settled in Bombay for several years; having a sweetheart, Yashodra, he is unable to even rent a decent apartment, and lives in a shanty tenement, which is slated to be demolished by the Bombay Municipal Corporation. Will Lalulal and Ghulam be able to improve their lives or will they be caught up in just surviving on a day to day basis?

Rahul, the son-in-law of an old industrialist and one of the heirs to his fortune, clashes with Dinesh, the industrialist’s nephew who is openly unscrupulous. Rahul, on his part, conceals his personal ambition under a cloak of liberalism and encourages indigenous production.

Maya, coming from poor family, is married to the affluent Dr. Anand; but she tries to commit suicide on the nuptial night. She tells Anand that she was in love with Prem whose ambition was to be a music director. He too was in love with her but thought she would not be happy as his wife. Anand tells Maya that he had married her only for his mother who was on her death bed. When the mother dies Anand wants to unite Prem and Maya but Prem says it is against Hindu culture and disappears from their life.

Advocate Gautam Mehra lives in Bombay with his wife, Anju, and a daughter, Rakhsa. One day while returning from court he sees a woman being molested. He stops, phones the police, and then tries to stop the molester, in vain, though as he gets attacked and loses consciousness. But the police do arrive and arrest the molester. Raghuvir's attempts to convince Gautam to change his testimony are in vain. Gautam goes on to testify against Raghuvir Singh, and gets him sentenced to seven years rigorous prison.

Mohan Kumar's diligence and honesty lands him in trouble with Balwant Singh Kalra, Jugal Kishore Ahuja, and Mr. Bhandari. Together the trio frame and imprison Mohan and make him watch helplessly as his wife is killed. Years later, Mohan Kumar is released from prison, his only goal in life is to avenge his humiliation and wrongful arrest at the hands of the trio. With the help of Dinesh Verma, he establishes himself again, and starts the process of bringing death and destruction to the trio. The trio are well aware of his presence, and decide to send one of their men, Ravi, to spy on him. Ravi falls in love with Verma's daughter, Roma, and decides to change sides to help Verma and Mohan, but Mohan will not have anything to do with Ravi, and asks him to leave. Ravi then becomes a target by the trio and their men, and has to save himself, and the only way he can redeem himself is by turning the tables over Mohan, who is none other than his own father.Duniya

Allegedly based on a true incident reported on page 7 of a local newspaper, the film was a scathing satire on the corruption in the judicial system and the victimization of the underprivileged by the able and the powerful.

Born on the street, without any knowledge of his parents, Shankar (Jackie Shroff) lives his life as an urchin, on petty thievery and con games.
