Juan Carlos Barreto

An astonishing fictional account of the unending series of murders of young women in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, which began in 1996. Most of the victims are low-paid laborers who have been drawn to the town by the possibility of work at American-owned factories. In the film Mexican police officer Blanca Bravo is sent to Cuidad Juarez to investigate and comes to learn realities of these women's lives, as well as the truth about a police force and local power structure embodied by entrepreneur Mickey Santos that has ceased to care.

Eugenia is a former pop singer who is bedridden and dying of cancer. She is cared for by her daughter, Helena, who dreams of traveling the world and wishes she could be a glamorous pop star like her mother was. Helena’s younger brother Sebastian's dreams are simple and he merely wants to move to the beach. Juan is the nemesis of the school preppy named Ismael who comes from such a wealthy home that he has his own chauffeur and bodyguards. Ismael's ping-pong obsessed girlfriend Aurora rents a room at Helena and Sebastian's house where Ismael discovers he is also attracted to Sebastian.

The Mexican version however is taken from the original Colombian soap opera series "El Último Matrimonio Feliz". Esperanza del Corazón is a Mexican telenovela produced by Luis de Llano Macedo for Televisa. It is a merger of Aguetas de Color de Rosa and Confidente de Secundaria, produced by Luis de Llano Macedo in 1994 and 1996, respectively. Bianca Marroquin and Patricio Borghetti star as the main protagonists, while Lucía Méndez and Lisardo Guarinos star as the main antagonists. Canal de las Estrellas aired Esperanza del Corazón from July 18, 2011 to February 3, 2012, with Un Refugio para el Amor replacing it. Univision aired Esperanza del Corazón at 2pm central from September 6 to October 14, 2011, replacing one hour of Zacatillo, un lugar en tu corazón. It was later seen at 1pm central from October 17, 2011 to March 9, 2012, replacing Rafaela. From March 12 to March 23, 2012, Univision moved "Esperanza del Corazón" to 12pm central, due to El Talismán airing at 1pm central.
