Hannes is an old man who has grown apart from his children. Recently retired when his wife gets ill he tries to reconcile with them and to atone for his cold demeanor in the past.

The film shows a strong bond between two brothers that live in a remote fjord with their parents. We look into their world through the eyes of the younger brother and follow him on a journey that marks a turning point in the lives of the brothers.

When Guðjón, an Icelandic farmer, loses his beloved in the war raging throughout most of the world, he builds a small hut in her memory within the peaceful environment close to his house. It has snowed a lot today. As other days, Alfred theorist, a good friend of Guðjón's from the neighbouring farm, drops by for a visit. Today, old lady Gunna's cat has disappeared and Alfred conveys a special theory that has a strange impact on Guðjón's life.

The plot follows Una, described as “an outsider in the events that unfold around her, even though she is in fact at their centre”. Because of a secret she carries around with her, she can’t claim the space she deserves in the grief that she experiences. Una has to make space for everyone else’s emotions whilst preserving her own dignity.
