The second short from the "Mickey McGuire" film series. The series was based on Fontaine Fox's popular comic strip "Toonerville Trolley". "Mickey McGuire" was a popular rival to Hal Roach's Our Gang series. Perhaps the most notable note about the series is that it launched Mickey Rooney's film career. The film follows Mickey McGuire (Rooney) and his pals as they start a "Pet Xchange".

Wealthy Jervis Pendleton acts as benefactor for orphan Judy Abbott, anonymously sponsoring her in her boarding school. But as she grows up, he finds himself falling in love with her, and she with him, though she does not know that the man she has fallen for is her benefactor.

Lowe plays Chatrand the Great, a magician with great hypnotic and magical powers. During his evening performance at an upscale theater, a murder occurs. A hand wearing a sinister spider ring raises a revolver, the lights go out, and a shot rings out! When the lights come on, the body of a patron is lying on the floor, dying. Who is the mysterious killer? What is the strange secret of Lowe’s clairvoyant, amnesia-plagued assistant? After the police restrain the audience from leaving, Lowe uses his magical powers to help expose the killer. Watch for the terrific séance scene where weird ghost-like creatures float above the stage.

It's the first day back at school for Mickey and the gang, which means plenty of pain for the schoolteacher. But things really heat up when a fire breaks out in the schoolhouse.

Richard, a millionaire in love with his secretary, Diane, is dispirited when his wife refuses to divorce him. Concerned that Diane will now lose interest, Richard offers her an all-expense-paid cruise to Argentina so that she can think it over. While traveling, however, Diane falls in love with fellow traveler Mike. She resolves to come clean to Richard, but upon return she becomes conflicted when she finds out he was able to get divorced after all.

A medical researcher is sent to a plague outbreak, where he has to decide priorities for the use of a vaccine.

Mickey Rooney -- credited as McGuire, as he would be through the run of the series -- inducts a new member into the gang, tries to put little brother Billy Barty to bed for a nap, and wins a basketball game against Stinky Davis' team in this episode of the series.

From 1929 to 1931, Hal Roach's “Our Gang” series showcasing scruffy but lovable kids was among the studio's biggest successes in the new era of sound. But in 1932, the franchise would introduce one of the most beloved and durable members of the gang in George ""Spanky"" McFarland—so named because of his mother's constant admonitions of ""Mustn't touch! Spanky, spanky!""
