Petar Gorjan is a 40-year-old successful propagandist and cynical strategist of consumerist society that is faced with family and identity crisis. The topic, as well as the main character, is inspired by his aunt who used to work in the industry. In order to find the star of the film, he invites three esteemed actresses to his apartment for an informal reading rehearsal. However, as soon as they realise they are competing against each other for the lead role, things take an unexpected turn.

A hundred year old woman called Nada and her 75-year old daughter Vera have a tense but familiar relationship. The childlike Vera takes care of her frail, mute though at times cruel, mother until one evening a bat flies into Nada's room and starts hibernating underneath her bed. The animal's presence gradually reinvigorates the old woman, eternally and fatally changing the relationship between mother and daughter.

On the eve of Mirjana’s 20 year work anniversary, when she is to receive an award at a modest celebration, her interactions with her loved ones illustrate her whole life: the one behind her, the one she is living and the one that is yet to come. «A Blue Flower» is a film about a woman, about a mother and a daughter, a film that evokes emotional associations and urges us to take a long hard look at ourselves.

Sitting in a restaurant representing the waiting room to the other world, a tired old man watches the patrons who represent him and his immediate family during the important moments of his life. Moments that have impacted him and the family, and have turned him into a man he was at the end of his life. The old man is forced to look these events in an objective way, observe them from the sidelines, as the judge and jury of a tragic life filled with regret, bitterness, and bad decisions. At a certain point, it becomes clear that the old man has actually died and is watching his own life.

Apart from the fact that he feels neither as a citizen nor as a peasant, nothing binds the main protagonist to his place of birth in this typical Simunovic work about homo duplex, deeply contaminated with a feeling of pain.
