Thambaram N. Lalitha

Kalathur Kannamma (English: Kannamma of Kalathur) is an Indian Tamil romantic drama film produced by A. V. Meiyappan and directed by A. Bhimsingh. The film stars Gemini Ganesan and Savitri in the lead, while Kamal Hassan made his debut in this film as a child artist. The film's critically acclaimed soundtrack was composed by R. Sudharsanam. The film tells the story of a young couple who are separated by unfortunate circumstances, while their innocent son is forced to grow up in an orphanage.

After Kattabomman's execution at Kayattar, his brother, Oomadurai, becomes the ruler of the town Sivaganga. Seeing this as an opportunity, the British attack and invade the town with a powerful army.

Pazhani has two children — Chandiran and Meena. Meena is married. Chandiran loves Pankajam. His father and grandmother want him to marry a relative girl, Thangam, who is very helpful to the family. But Chandiran marries Pankajam defying them. Although brought in for comic relief, the ever-loveable J. P. Chandrababu and his milkman character became the real irresistible pull of this family melodrama. Director A. Bhimsingh—a rare talent to have successes in both South Indian and Hindi cinemas—masterfully blends lightness and pathos.
