A visitor from the western front tells young children, in a sober commentary, about the battle of Verdun.

Because Colin has a charming smile, he seduces his boss, a great decorator. And Colin, who ruined himself to approach the young woman, succeeds in becoming her partner and then her husband.

A father has two sons, the older one serious and hard-working, the younger one spendthrift and pleasure-seeking. The latter rejects his father's authority and leaves home. It is not long before he wastes all his fortune and falls into poverty. He repents and decides to return home. Despite his older son's resentment, the father welcomes back the lost sheep.

From 6 P.M. to 8 P.M., in a documentary fashion, the film shows different character types sitting, meeting, and working at a cocktail's bar.

Set in Brussels, where Suzanne Beulemans, the daughter of a rich brewer is promised to marry Séraphin Meulemeester, the son of a rival brewer. The young man and his father both seem particularly motivated by the dowry of the young fiancée. But Séraphin has a rival in Albert Delpierre, a young Frenchman who is learning brewery from Ferdinand Beulemans and who is discreetly enamoured with the young woman. Albert learns Séraphin's secret that he is having an affair with a worker and that they have had a child. He promises Séraphin that he will never reveal any of it to Suzanne, but she is told by Isabelle, her maid.

Lilian, a rich young girl, is to marry Baron de Plessis, captain of the bobsleigh team. However, Lilian is interested in Tressac, the captain of the opposing team. When everyone discovers that the baron is a burglar, Lilian can marry her lover.

A dramatized re-enactment and documentary of the Battle of Verdun as seen by both French and German soldiers, shot on site of the actual battle.
