Liu Zhong-yuan is a famous martial artist who lives in seclusion with his family. His eldest daughter, Liu Feng, helps him in the clinic while her husband works in England. His second daughter, Liu Yi, has no interest in learning martial arts. Instead, she attends university while her brother, Liu Long, spends his time fighting. Concerned for his son's well-being, Liu Zhong-yuan decides to open a martial arts school. However, Liu Long desires to become a movie star, leading to conflicts with his family and involvement with the criminal underworld. Can Liu Zhong-yuan use his martial arts skills and sense of justice to help his son find his way back?

"Bei Zheng" is an honest and upright hero who seeks to help others. He operates a clinic in the small town of Pu Ren Lane, with the help of assistants like "Lu Cheng," "Lü Ren," and "Mao Shi Jun." His friend's son, "Fong Chun," comes to learn from him and becomes an invaluable aide. The owner of the inn who rents out a storefront to "Bei Zheng" is infatuated with him, but he only has eyes for "Bai Su Yi". "Fong Chun" initially dislikes living with "Bei Zheng" but eventually sees the value in his work and learns from him. He abandons his career as a royal physician to follow "Bei Zheng's" aspirations. "Fong Chun" was initially engaged to "Bai Jing Wen," but he falls in love with "Xiao Qian," a prostitute. Their love affair leads to a tragic end when "Xiao Qian" is killed by "Bai Jing Wen."

Triumph in the Skies is about the daily lives of the staff, working under Solar Airways (a fictional airline based on Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific). It has been compared to the now-cancelled NBC series LAX. It sparked an interest in aviation when first aired amongst Hong Kong viewers, as well as an interest in a small doll named "Triangel" featured early on in the series.
