Jane, with plain looks but a heart of gold, is always in between jobs. Once she gets a job, her knack for creating awkward situations immediately loses it for her. Ricky is her suitor, but he gets nowhere as the girl has no time for love. So Ricky goes along with her in job hunting. Somehow, Jane lands on a job as governess. Not to a child, but to an uncouth very old, very rich man who still wants to lead the life of his poor, uncivilized youth. His son is now running the old man's millions. He wants to bring up the father the civilized way. And he wants to take over the whole city through take-over deals. He is ruthless and has thrown thousands into the streets.

Mainlander Nan moves to Hong Kong to earn a living by being a gambler and casino dealer. She meets up with her stuntman cousin Po and his horse-race gambler landlord Li and together, the three try to make ends meet in the gambling world. However, they stumbled upon a plot where greedy investor Fu Hon-San swindled the shares of his gambler brother Fun Hon-Hwa, whom befriended Nan, and, as a result, the gamblers band together in attempts to topple Hon-San.

In “82 Tenants” the widow Zhang and Bing, her new young consort, want to sell an apartment house to a property developer but old man Zhang's will provided that the current tenants can stay there as long as they want or the building survives. So it is clear who the villains are—joining the greedy couple is Chao who has purchased all the land around the building but needs this final piece so he can know everything down and build a money spinning edifice. One the other side are the tenants, a disparate group whose grudgingly and occasionally antagonistically shared communal life, while not ideal, is certainly better than not having a place to live.

Rocky Chan (Eric Tsang), is a shy character who is always nervous and awkward. On his 1st wedding anniversary, Rocky returns home and finds that his wife has left him. His best friend Charlie (Ray Lui), and his girlfriend Mildred (Rowena Lam) decide to introduce ladies of all characters to Rocky, creating a series of comic situations. Mildred has an accident and has to stay in hospital but Charlie goes on a business trip leaving her to Rocky.
