The location is the Belarusian forests, close to the Polish border, during Operation Bagration in the summer of 1944. After a short pause, the Red Army is preparing to advance, but on one segment of the front there are two serious obstacles: an unnamed hill with unknown German strength, and a highly skilled German sniper, who is killing off not only Russian officers, but also all captured German officers before they can be interrogated. Because of this, the local commander, Major Inozemtsev, suspects that the hill is a trap, which the Germans are very eager to keep a secret.

During WWII, Major Ivan Vasilyevich Pugachev fights at the front, but after being wounded he is taken prisoner. During the offensive of the Soviet troops, the Germans decide to eliminate the prisoners of war. Before the execution, General Vlasov arrives in a German concentration camp, who agitates to join the ROA. Pugachev and his comrades decide to escape.

An ordinary working class boy, like all his peers, he played football day and night and dreamed of being a striker. But no matter which team he played for - in the yard, at the factory, or in the army - he was inevitably put in goal.

Events take us to the beginning of World War II in the small town of Stavrovo. Its unique location, a passing railway and a fork in several roads, proximity to the front line, made it attractive to German troops. They placed a rather large garrison in the city. In the city and in its outskirts, an underground was organized. Most of which were recent graduates of the school. This is a story about two fates, two former schoolchildren - Alexei and Dmitry. The first went underground and tried in every possible way to prevent the invaders, giving his life for his homeland. The second sided with the enemy and became an executioner for his own compatriots.

Almost deserted, the abandoned lands of Gulag still bear traces of those who perished there. Although this trip becomes somewhat therapeutic for the two of them, it also puts their relationship to the test.
