Fendy Pradana

Malam Satu Suro is a romantic Indonesian horror movie directed by Gautama Putra Sisworo and starring Suzanna and Fendy Pradana. The film is known for its unique story line because it does not highlight the ghost as an antagonist but as the main character / protagonist. The film was distributed by Soraya Intercine Films.

Ki Jabat, the lord of a forbidden jungle, adopts a son he names Sembara. To increase his power, Sembara is told to explore the jungle and is helped / trained by Datuk Panglima Kumbang, a “Tiger Man.” Another Tiger Man named Mardian, this one an evil cannibal, is going around doing terrible things and Sembara must use his new skills to stop him. This is another crazy Indonesian mishmash of fantasy, horror, action and melodrama.

The third and final entry in this original fantasy / horror series (which was remade for Indonesian television later) finds Sembara (Fendy Pradana) and friends facing off against a gaggle of supernatural bad guys.

Set at the end of the Majapahit era, Bre Wirabhumi, son of Hayamwuruk, but born from a concubine, demands his right to be king of Majapahit. The kingdom is then ruled by Wikramawardhana, son-in-law of Hayamwuruk. To rival Majapahit, Bre Wirabhumi creates the Pamotan kingdom and looks for allies amongst other kingdoms. What happens instead is a misunderstanding that leads to the death of Brama’s envoy. Even worst, the lover of the murderer, Lasmini (Murti Sari Dewi), takes revenge by kidnapping Brama’s wife. The conflict then escalates into the Paregreg war between Majapahit and Pamotan.

Brama Kumbara’s plan to build a royal resting place near his teacher’s grave is being obstructed by people from the Kuntala kingdom. They rally their people who live in Brama’s kingdom, Madangkara, and they manage to influence the regents of Madangkara through their wives. Then the regents stop obeying their leader. They also hire highly skilled villains to destroy the resting place. Brama is furious. With Mantili, he pursues all the rebels and exterminates the Kuntala people who are not loyal to Madangkara.

Set during the kingdom of Majapahit after the reign of King Hayam Wuruk, the Saur Sepuh films were based on the popular radio plays in the 80s. Lasmini is raped and thrown into a ravine, but is saved by Granny Lawu. She is then taught martial arts until the granny dies. Then Lasmini leaves the mountain to find her rapists and kills them one by one. One day, she has a fight with Mantili because she is close to Bentar. Then Lasmini returns to Mount Lawu to improve her martial arts. After learning new skills, she returns to challenge all the martial arts experts and is victorious. Mantili then goes to improve his skills from Brama and challenges Lasmini. Now Lasmini is defeated.

Then Mantili (Elly Ermawatie) also becomes angry. However, Lasmini cannot be found. She disappeared after losing the battle. Brama then accepts a challenge by the two monks to test his martial arts skills against theirs. They battle for three days and nights, but nobody wins.
