The crusades come to life in Egyptian artist Wael Shawky’s beautiful Cabaret Crusades. With a cast made up entirely of puppets, the third part, The Secrets of Karbala (2014), centres on the period between the 7th and 12th centuries, covering the crusades as well as a dispute between two Islamic sects. Beautifully made of handblown Murano glass, the puppets have amazing expressive power, making the scenes full of violence, repression and torture all the more awe-inspiring.

Hala is an orphaned child, hosted by a billionaire in his palace, to escape from the orphanage in which she and other children suffer from the injustice of the supervisor, and then Hala succeeds in filling the void of the life of the billionaire and imposing her will on him with her captivating innocence, and even succeeds in directing his heart to his secretary who loves him until he exchanges that love .

The life of the wealthy man Naguib Zahi Zarkash, takes an unexpected turn after he discovers the shocking secret of having a son that he knows nothing about. With the help of his servant, he succeeds in reaching three young men, that his son might be one of them.

The series follows the life of Hassan, an old chivalrous Arabesque workshop owner who lives in a poor neighborhood with his family. The series provides an insight into the day-to-day struggles of the family as Hassan gets involved in much of their neighbors' disputes and affairs.

The events take place in a historical context, in the 11th century, where the leader of the Assassins, Hassan al-Sabah, and his leadership of the band that was famous for carrying out bloody assassinations of prominent figures at that stage.

The events revolve around two families, the family of "Hassan", whose wife died and left him four young men, and the family of Nadia, whose husband died and left her four daughters, and we will see how the two parties will deal with the problems around them, at first each party alone and after the meeting how they will face each other when they get to know each other.

In a social dramatic context, the events of the series revolve around the issue of marital infidelity and the secrets of the human soul through three women (a doctor, a lawyer, and an employee in one of the departments), where the pace of events escalates due to the disputes between the lawyer and her husband, an interior designer, especially after she accused him of betrayal, with the intertwined relationships between all parties.
