1995, São Paulo. Following the deployment of the Plano Real, Liz, 13, is sent to Ireland by her newly middle class parents on an exchange programme. Malhação is a Brazilian television series for the teenage audience. The soap started in 1995, and was set in a fictional Gym Club called Malhação on Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro. Through the years the location varied slightly. Although the name of the soap remains the same, it is now set in the Múltipla Escolha High School.
In this coming- of-age series, five friends are reunited after six years without seeing each other. They are entering adulthood and dealing with conflicts of different natures, but common to a generation that is skeptical about the future, relationships and people. Amid reflection on the choices and the destiny they have decided upon for their lives, together they feel stronger to face what is to come.
