During a test run for a large race in Sicily the racing car driver Bettina Bang gets into an accident and is saved by a secretive person unknown to her. It later turns out that the unknown man is the race car driver Harry Bredow.
Elisabeth is subject of a girl's boarding school run by the nuns. The village idiot Michele adores her and is particularly drawn to her organ playing. In his madness, he kills the girl's father and tries to lay the blame on the organist.
Princess Christine is impelled to be married, and expected to perform at the next Schönbrunn festival. But she takes a break and goes to Vienna instead, where she finds herself sharing a carriage with a young stranger.
