The Hamburg friends Walter, Ricco and Floyd take each day as it comes between the estates of tower blocks and fast food restaurants. All three are in their early twenties and are dreaming of another life when Floyd suddenly takes a job on a freighter going to Singapore.

Maria Nikolai was once a celebrated musician. 20 years ago she came to Hamburg with her husband, who has since died. But her neighborhood, which used to be a neighborly neighborhood, is gradually threatening to turn into a social hotspot: the streets are dirty, young people are killing time in front of the supermarket and alcohol is a constant companion for many. Bella Block is a long-running German detective television series starring Hannelore Hoger, first broadcast in 1994 on ZDF. In 2010 the 30th series was produced.
