In 1913, an orphaned young woman arrives in Budapest to take up employment as a milliner at the hat store that belonged to her late parents but becomes mired in a search for a brother she had never known of.

At the same time, Tom is developing a second obsession to a motorcyclist that he occasionally sees. More and more Tom gets lost in a labyrinth of passions. As Lars discovers him, the persecutor becomes the persecuted leading to a shocking confrontation.
