In many small episodes, various characters represent the typical vices and comedy of Italian society in early 2000.

Garage owner Angelo and big-time film producer Alberto find themselves occupying neighbouring beds in a Rome hospital after suffering heart attacks. Alberto is a gregarious joker - and chain smoker - who has a strong effect on the impressionable Angelo. However, as one of the men's condition deteriorates, the other becomes more deeply involved in his personal life.

After a freak accident, a nursery school janitor finds out he can now understand babyspeak.

Grandfather Alcide is given a surprise party by his many relatives. He, however, dies of a heart attack. The dearly departed turns out to have been a hardened saver and leaves an astonishing amount of money to his two sons, Alfredo and Nunzio, who suddenly find themselves dealing with a large sum of money. On the advice of Nunzio, the younger brother, Alfredo decides to move to Rome to open a restaurant serving typical Calabrian cuisine, Il Piparedduzzo.

Enea chases after the myth he bears in his name; he does so to feel alive in a dead and decadent age. He does so together with Valentino, a newly baptized aviator. The two, in addition to dealing and partying, share youth. Lifelong friends, victims and perpetrators of a corrupt world, but moved by an incorruptible vitality. Beyond the boundaries of rules, on the other side of morality, there is a sea full of humanity and symbols to be discovered. Enea and Valentino will fly over it to the furthest extremes. However, drugs and the underworld are the invisible shadow of a story about something else: a melancholy father, a brother fighting at school, a mother defeated by love and a beautiful girl, a happy ending and a happy death, a palm tree falling on a glass world.

Summer 1969 is very special for Andrea a 13 year-old boy who is about to leave, with his family, for a little village on the hills surrounding a great lake in Northern Italy. There he finds, like every year, his uncles, aunts, cousins, a fascinating mother, a father always away on business trips, a grandfather who does not want to grow old and a granny who talks to trees. During this summer he makes his first discoveries about life and love and abandons the illusions and the magic of childhood.
