Biography
James "Jim" Daniel Couroux (born 11 August 2005) is a Canadian screenwriter, director, composer, musician, and horror writer.
Couroux was born in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, and grew up in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. He moved to Oakville, Ontario to pursue film at Sheridan College in their BFTV program which he is currently enrolled. He began his first serious attempts at filmmaking during the Covid-19 pandemic with his experimental short film "Seasonal Severity" an allegory for seasonal depression inspired by his peers' bizarre and explorative work. Couroux's journey in experimental filmmaking continued for several years with projects such as "Blinking In Childhood" ultimately culminating in his award-winning short film "Playland: A Dream-O-Vision Experience" which was produced as his final project in his freshman cinematography class. During his freshman year, Couroux also expanded his library of credits through volunteer work on other student productions as a composer putting to use his self-taught skills as a musician to bring works of various genres from horror to drama to life on the screen. Couroux would go on to write, direct, edit, compose, and manage the sound design on their final production of the year, "Blood Is Thicker Than Water" a drama combining elements of horror filmmaking and experimental techniques to paint a surreal yet grounded portrait of his mental health journey as a young adult and teenager.
Following the end of freshman year, Couroux began to write and organize a film to be shot over the 2024 summer season. The film titled Dire Pines would shoot for 3 days in Couroux's hometown of Niagara-on-the-Lake and host a cast and crew of 13. The film is expected to arrive in 2025.
With sophomore year beginning in the fall of 2024, Couroux has set his lens' razor-sharp focus on the horror genre with a suspected holiday-themed horror film to grace the screen Christmas of 2024.
In 2021 Couroux started a production company, Monochromatic Pillow Pictures to house his creative works online. What started as a platform for Couroux's creative expression quickly grew rapidly expanding throughout 2024. Couroux is currently 1 of 9 members of Monochromatic Pillow Pictures, a filmmaking collective intent on fostering good people, good professionals, and good artists within the filmmaking community and providing an outlet for their creative expression in the process. The company consists of Couroux's most trusted and frequent collaborators with several productions under their belts and on the way.
Apart from Couroux's pursuit of filmmaking, he has also over the years held a steady and currently private practice in both writing short stories and novellas as well as pursuing his skills in musical composition outside of the filmic medium.
