Hans Goedkoop

After four centuries of common history, almost 10% of the Dutch have Indonesian roots in their family. The national history is brought to life on the basis of historical stories between the Dutch East-Indies and the city of Amersfoort.

In 13 episodes presenter Hans Goedkoop takes us back to the 19th century, in which a country came to be which we still know today - the start of the modern Netherlands.

Andere Tijden presents the new 8-part documentary series Indonesia calls! In it, Hans Goedkoop follows the trail of his grandfather: Rein van Langen. 'Grandpa Rein', born on Java, grew up around 1900 at a time when the colonial rule of Indonesia was still seems unshakable.

At the end of the 16th century, Dutch subjects revolted against legitimate Spanish rule. What starts with the discontent of a minority grows into a war that will last more than a lifetime. From Groningen to Brussels, from Den Briel to Groenlo, the battle erupts everywhere. And often that struggle has a strangely modern appearance. Terrorism, propaganda, executions, radicalization, shock and awe; all themes that can easily be found in the war that was fought from 1568 to 1648. In a 7-part television series, the NTR will bring the stories about the 80-year war that can be found all over the country from September 28, every Friday at 9.05 pm on NPO 2. And Hans Goedkoop oversees the battlefield with experts.

Historian Hans Goedkoop is of Dutch-Indonesian descent. In a two-part TV program he talks to first, second and third generation Dutch-Indonesians. This gives Dutch Indians the opportunity to talk about their feelings about the colonial past of the Netherlands.
