In Berlin 1942, Hilde is a member of an anti-Nazi group. She falls in love with another member, Hans. The two spend a summer together until they get caught by the Gestapo and Hilde is imprisoned, eight months pregnant.
Oliver Knöbel, who likes to dress in drag and is bullied and even physically attacked for it in his hometown in the provinces, manages to establish himself as a drag queen, entertainer and caterer in St. Pauli with humor and perseverance.
