Anatoliy Trifonov returns home after army service. He meets Raya, chairman's niece, who falls in love, but life takes its own course.
A local veteran, Ilko Stepanovych, attaches himself to a visiting group of young filmmakers shooting a war film. He is determined to make sure everything is recreated down to the smallest detail—exactly as it was in his own life.
