District Governor Behçet and his screenwriter wife Ilgın settle in a village where the villagers are pressuring them to drain a water canal into which their children have fallen and drowned. Behçet denies his responsibility for the incident and blames the villagers for the deaths of the children, while Ilgın stays out of everything and sees what happened as the material for a screenplay. The villagers are determined to avenge their children.
When Baki, a mortician, confronts death up close for the first time, he resolves to change something in his solitary life.
