An exploration into perceptual processes in the act of seeing and listening, Chiasmus takes film as a metaphor for the breathing body, through the intercrossing of the medium and the fragmented images of the body in movement. The rhythm and tension created by the interplay between sound and image, and their disjunction and conjunction, aspire to an organic and sensual moment where inside becomes outside, and outside inside.
Two friends dreaming
Shot on 16mm film in New York and composed in Berlin, the work explores polarizing themes of the metropolis. Audibly and visually, the viewer is put in a flicker between serenity and intensity; harrowing ambience cut with sharp beeps, vulnerable steps mashed in high velocity.
A half-hour experimental film that shows Fukui moving towards cyberpunk imagery in a manner similar to Tsukamoto, featuring industrial locations, a malfunctioning cyborg/android and a hulking metallic ‘caterpillar’ that stalks characters.

At first it feels structured and orderly but as more elements are added becomes quixotically expressive.

In the tradition of experimental genres such as the cut-up, collage, permutation, altered book, & erasure poem, ‘Burning Batteries’ dissects the idea of the book in both a literal & philosophical way. Books are usually thought of as 2D, static, fixed pieces of historically relevant narratives – ReVerse Butcher wants you to (re)think books as contested spaces for possible intervention, creative agency, & rebellion. She sees books as multi-layered places where multiple meanings hide behind the illusion of being locked-in by consensus reality.
