Uma Thurman

Biography

Uma Karuna Thurman (born April 29, 1970) is an American actress, writer, producer and model. She has acted in a variety of films, from romantic comedies and dramas to science fiction and action films. Following her appearances on the December 1985 and May 1986 covers of British Vogue, Thurman's breakthrough role was Dangerous Liaisons (1988) in which she starred. She rose to international prominence with her role as Mia Wallace in Quentin Tarantino's 1994 film Pulp Fiction, for which she was nominated for the Academy Award, the BAFTA Award, and the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress. Often hailed as Tarantino's muse, she reunited with the director to play the main role of The Bride in Kill Bill: Volume 1 and 2 (2003, 2004), which brought her two additional Golden Globe Award nominations. Established as a Hollywood leading lady, her other notable films include Henry & June (1990), The Truth About Cats & Dogs (1996), Batman & Robin (1997), Gattaca (1997), Les Misérables (1998), Paycheck (2003), The Producers (2005), My Super Ex-Girlfriend (2006), Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010), Lars von Trier's Nymphomaniac (2013) and The House That Jack Built (2018). In 2011, Thurman was a member of the jury for the main competition at the 64th Cannes Film Festival, and in 2017, she was named president of the 70th edition's "Un Certain Regard" jury. Thurman made her Broadway debut in The Parisian Woman (2017–2018). For her performance in the made-for-HBO film Hysterical Blindness (2002), Thurman won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Television Film, and for her five-episode role in the NBC musical series Smash (2012), she received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series. Elza Kephart

Biography

Montréal born Elza Kephart graduated from Emerson College with a BFA in Film Production and Screenwriting. She then returned to her hometown where she wrote and directed her first feature GRAVEYARD ALIVE. Since its premiere in 2003 the film has screened in over 20 international film festivals and garnered numerous awards, as well as being picked up for distribution and international sales. Kephart has attended the Canadian Film Centre’s Director’s Lab, the TIFF Talent Lab, the Berlinale Talent Campus, and has obtained development funding for numerous projects. Sir Thomas Sean Connery (August 25, 1930 – October 31, 2020) was a Scottish actor and producer who won an Academy Award, two BAFTA Awards (one being a BAFTA Academy Fellowship Award), and three Golden Globes, including the Cecil B. DeMille Award and a Henrietta Award. Connery was the first actor to portray the character James Bond in film, starring in seven Bond films (every film from Dr. No to You Only Live Twice, plus Diamonds Are Forever and Never Say Never Again), between 1962 and 1983. In 1988, Connery won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Untouchables. His films also include Marnie (1964), Murder on the Orient Express (1974), The Man Who Would Be King (1975), A Bridge Too Far (1977), Highlander (1986), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), The Hunt for Red October (1990), Dragonheart (1996), The Rock (1996), and Finding Forrester (2000). Connery was polled in a 2004 The Sunday Herald as "The Greatest Living Scot" and in a 2011 EuroMillions survey as "Scotland's Greatest Living National Treasure". He was voted by People magazine as both the “Sexiest Man Alive" in 1989 and the "Sexiest Man of the Century” in 1999. He received a lifetime achievement award in the United States with a Kennedy Center Honor in 1999. Connery was knighted in the 2000 New Year Honours for services to film drama. Perelman made his feature film directorial debut in 2003 with House of Sand and Fog, following a successful career as a commercial director. The film, nominated for three Academy Awards, also marks his first screenplay credit. Perelman was drawn to the story, having been shaped by his own immigrant experience. Derrick Beckles

Biography

Derrick Beckles is a Canadian writer, director, actor, and comedian. He is the creator and host of the Adult Swim television show Hot Package, creator of the "TV Carnage" compilations, and helped found Vice TV. He is from Scarborough, Ontario. Beckles spent the majority of his teenage years in Toronto punk bands including Black Jello, who were well known for being banned from every possible live venue in Toronto. He began experimenting with film making with two high school friends, which included the filming of him visiting white supremacists in their home. These early filming endeavors led to him studying film at Concordia University. Soon after, Beckles began working with and shaping what was then a ten-page weekly called The Voice of Montreal, which grew into VICE Magazine. Beckles became a familiar face on Canadian TV while occasionally doing stand-up in Toronto and New York. Gerald Thomas

Gerald Thomas (10 December 1920 – 9 November 1993) was an English film director, born in Hull. He began his film career in 1946 as an editor for Two Cities Films at Denham Studios. His editing work included many films directed by his brother, Ralph. Despite a fairly varied early career, Thomas is now almost exclusively remembered as the director of 30 Carry On films, the innuendo-laden and financially hugely-successful British comedy series, produced by Peter Rogers, beginning with Carry On Sergeant in 1958. Kate Elizabeth Winslet (born October 5, 1975) is an English actress. Known for her work in independent films, particularly period dramas, as well as for her portrayals of headstrong and complicated women, she has received numerous accolades, including an Academy Award, a Grammy Award, two Primetime Emmy Awards, three British Academy Film Awards, and five Golden Globe Awards. Winslet studied drama at the Redroofs Theatre School. Her first screen appearance, at age 15, was in the British television series Dark Season (1991). She made her film debut playing a teenage murderess in Heavenly Creatures (1994), and went on to win a BAFTA Award for playing Marianne Dashwood in Sense and Sensibility (1995).
