Set along the southern coast of Vietnam during the French occupation in the 1940s, water is everywhere, giving life and bringing decay and rot. Kim is 15; his father and step-mother have two buffalo, their lifeline as subsistence rice farmers. During the rainy season, there's no grass and the buffalo are starving. Kim volunteers to take the beasts inland to find food. On this coming-of-age journey, Kim sees men mistreat women, men fight with men, and French taxes rob the poor. He works for Lap, a buffalo herder whose past is entangled with Kim's parents, and he makes friends who will lead him to his place in the world.

An omnibus consisting of two parts. 1) Ototo no Koibito: Takeo is a graduate student who lives with his sister Momoko. He is hiding his relationship with Riku from her which results in trouble when she starts getting interested in Riku. Takeo gets jealous over this. 2) Aitsu no Kodomo: Akihiko is an officeworker who takes care of a child himself. It is not his child but the child of his crush Kazuya, a straight man, who has no time to be a parent. Akihiko gets frustrated over the lack of affection from Kazuya. One day a friend of Akihiko called Yuuki delivers him a gay AV with Kazuya in it which he watches. Akihiko is called by Kazuya who mentions marrying a new wife.

"Years of Macau" is an anthology film consisting of nine short films set in different years and locations in Macau. They include "Go Back Home", "REC-Last Days", "Sparkling Mind", "The Last Show", "Till the End of World", "The First Cigarette", "A Moment", "Dirty Laundry" and "Summer". All nine directors are from Macau, most of whom were born and raised here.
