Life in the Orkneys

In Aurand’s signature diaristic form, roses in bloom, farm animals, Orkney landscapes, and scenes of the late filmmaker Margaret Tait having tea are rendered through expressive Bolex movements as well as the director’s active camera, and punctuated by abstract swaths of saturated and shifting colors. The film is an homage to Tait, whom Aurand visited in Orkney.

A documentary series investigating the mysterious 2015 death of Charmain Speirs, a Scottish woman who married Ghanaian preacher Eric Adusah. After a whirlwind romance, Charmain was found dead in a hotel bathtub in Ghana six months post-wedding. While Adusah was briefly arrested for her murder, he denied involvement and was released; the investigation reveals significant gaps in his story.

The Myth of Inkarri is a short film shot on 35mm high-contrast black and white film. Using the traditional stop-motion technique, the 17th-century drawings of chronicler Felipe Guamán Poma de Ayala were reused without alteration to produce the famous myth of Inkarri. The short film narrates and recreates scenes in which the Spanish decapitate Inkarri and take his head to Lima; according to the legend, the head is alive and when it is reunited with the other parts of the body, a new Inca will be formed.
