A man who poured his life savings into a new apartment discovers its walls are full of disturbing noises, hostile neighbors and unsettling secrets.

Ju-young is a young woman with a hearing impediment who decides to investigate her sister's inexplicable disappearance, last seen in her apartment. Feeling more and more cornered, Ju-young begins to hear strange sounds and sense an evil presence in the apartment.

Nothing is more frightening, as the narrator points out, than a ‘time-rich nosy person’. Exhibit A is Ahn Geo-ul, who commits herself to social justice causes with terrifying tenacity. After temporarily renting a unit in the Baek-sae Apartment building, she discovers that a loud, hard to locate banging noise occurs from 4am every night, making the residents’ lives an insomniac hell – and so she determines to engage in her own disruption and to find the culprit of this acoustic assault, simultaneously eliminating her eccentric neighbours as suspects, and recruiting them to her cause.

Dr. Rodolfo Arias, a controversial and corrupt lawyer, is the victim of an attack and he points to his two enemies Miguel Guevara and Javier Roldán as the ones responsible. Faced with this situation, Guevara proposes to Roldán a plan to assassinate the lawyer. Fucho, a young criminal whose brother had been a victim of Arias' corruption, together with two other thugs, would be responsible for perpetrating the murder.

From what we understand, the film is set in the eighth century, during China’s Tang dynasty. The story draws inspiration from real historical battles, which pitted Chinese forces against the Islamic Abbasid Caliphate and Tibetan Empire in Central Asia.
