"A Father's Revenge" is very reminiscent of the 1976 all-star television production "Victory at Entebbe" and not just because both films have obviously been stymied by the restrictions of a desperately limited budget. They both handle the subject matter in a highly responsible manner instead of following the more well worn and crowd pleasing route of making an all out action movie. What they have managed to produce instead is an involving and convincing film by not doing this that can sometimes take you by surprise with its depiction of extreme human behaviour. It is also a relief that when Paul Hobart (Brian Dennehy) volunteers to accompany the mercenaries he has hired on the rescue mission this basketball coach from Indiana isn't suddenly transformed into a gun toting one man army, but the integrity of the character is maintained at all times (and so is the realism) until the very end.
