Middle of Silence is budget and feels it, but it's not a Hollywood movie. Being (I think) the only movie I've seen from Uganda other than the work of Nabwana IGG, this story is a lot of more character focused rather than being any kind of action or comedy. The acting can feel stilted, the depiction of our leading lady, Milly, a little strange at times, but I was locked into the story, I felt for her, I could feel the pain she was going through. The sound in this film also isn't great - with certain pops and creaks very loud and feeling unintentional, whilst some voice lines can only be understood through the subtitles due to being so quiet. My main critique is the poster actually. It feels wrong to have it not be centred on Milly after the film being about her and the sexualisation, assault, and trauma she experiences - her being minimised to the silouette of her body on the poster feels a little like the viewer is doing the same to her, but perhaps that's the intent.
