They are 50 years old today. Over the last thirty years, they have fought against Paris and its various governments. Since their first student demonstrations demanding the creation of a university in Corsica in the 70s, they have constantly pushed back the frontiers of protest. They created the Front de Libération Nationale de la Corse (Corsican National Liberation Front), and carried out hundreds of bombings and commando operations to violently assert the existence of an identity claim. Many have chosen to hang up their rifles, while a few are still adept at the murky game of clandestinity, but for all of them the time has come for an explanation and an initial assessment. This film is their story.

Sentenced to six years in prison, Malik El Djebena is alone in the world and can neither read nor write. On his arrival at the prison, he seems younger and more brittle than the others detained there. At once he falls under the sway of a group of Corsicans who enforce their rule in the prison. As the 'missions' go by, he toughens himself and wins the confidence of the Corsican group.

The son of the wealthy Signor Della Corba loves one of his maids. Her brothers and father rebel at the idea of this union. But the girl is pregnant, and after the birth of the child, Della Corba's son decides to kidnap his mistress on Carnival Day. The brothers, having caught wind of the plan, kill him, then, in disguise, take him masked to his father's house, passing him off as a drunken friend. At dawn, Della Corba discovers her lifeless son under the mask. The maid having died in the meantime, he takes the child in and adopts him.
