Using musical pitch as a medium, Ryoji Ikeda translates various kinds of data into an almost abstract code—a perfect sequence of “phrases” that create audiovisual compositions like those in code-verse. A universe of code and a code poem, the installation transforms mathematical code into an independent symphonic or polyphonic work. code-verse has no narrative: it communicates with the viewer’s senses. Immersed in white noise, viewers are invited to contemplate the poetry of mathematical relationships and variations in code in the same way one listens to music.

The DVD is a re-release of the concert from 02/28/1999. The peculiarity of this edition is the format 720x480 (16:9) (against 4:3 in the previous edition), as well as the sound of dts 5.1, a different order of songs, a different boxing design and, as it seemed to me, a slightly different shooting. Although I didn’t understand exactly, since the wide screen gives a different feeling. The quality of the video recording, in my opinion, is much worse than 4:3, but I did not closely compare. This DVD can only be of interest to true fans of Donna Summer, who want to have a favorite in all variants and angles.

Kicking off with the discovery of 267 tapes in an attic, along with a treasure trove of journals hidden in her childhood bedroom, this film tunes in to Derbyshire’s frequency; that of a life-long non-conformist, whose peals of laughter in an archive interview tickle with delight and eccentricity. Featuring a rich archive, interviews, fictional embodiment and Cosey Fanni Tutti’s psycho-sonic channelling, director Caroline Catz traces acoustic pathways on her archeological dig into Derbyshire’s resonant life.
