On a boring Sunday, Rebeca is taken by chance to a distant relative she has not seen for a long time. Curious about her uncle's life, her search opens the curtains into a previously unexplored but strangely familiar theatrical universe.

Beneath the soft glow of a theater stage, a conversation unfolds — an unraveling of stories tethered to history, shaped by places, and refracted through memory. Words echo silence as the stage becomes a mirror, reflecting what is seen, what is unseen, and what is felt. A contemplation of the liminal.

Architecture of Hope- For the Ruins of the Present

This documentary looks back on a career of a woman who, very early on, refused to accept the roles assigned to her. In the 1980s, while others were trying to please, she wrote "Les hommes préfèrent les grosses" (Men Prefer Fat Women), a manifesto ahead of its time, funny, feminist, and blunt. Later, with "Gazon maudit" (Damned Grass), she tackled homosexuality with a freedom that is still shocking today.

A retrospective of the work of the late actor Warren Oates, with clips from his films and interviews with cast and crew members who worked with him.

The Black Contribution – Literature and Theater 1978 is a rare documentary highlighting the voices and cultural impact of African American writers and performers during the civil rights era. Introduced by NAACP leader Benjamin Hooks and narrated by Roscoe Lee Brown, the film weaves together dramatic readings, theatrical excerpts, and candid urban street footage. Margaret Walker’s poem For My People is performed alongside scenes of daily Black life in New York City — children playing, families on stoops, open fire hydrants, and the realities of poverty in 1970s neighborhoods. James Baldwin appears in interview footage, while signs for his play The Amen Corner and stage excerpts from Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun underscore the powerful presence of Black voices in American theater. With rare shots of Harlem life, literature, and performance, this film documents the enduring contributions of African American artists to U.S. culture and history.

Signals Through the Flames is at once a history and a celebration of the Living Theatre. Founded in the late 1940s by husband-and-wife performers Julian Beck and Judith Malina, the Living Theatre was for many years the predominent American outlet for the avant-garde movement. Estado de Excepção is a documentary about CITAC (Coimbra Theater Initiation Circle), a university theater group, revealing history since it was constituted in 1956 until the aftermath of the 1974 revolution. It is the history of the theater group university and, through it, the history of theater in Portugal, revealing two remarkable decades of the History of Portugal. Through the Academy of Coimbra, the documentary reproduces student life, the position of women in society, and the change in mentalities of being and being in the world. It reproduces the existing censorship and the fight against the dictatorship, the resistance to an exhausted regime, as well as the emerging contradictions of the democratic revolution. CITAC has a heritage of 50 years of experience in Coimbra. It carries with it the possibility of the theatrical and civic formation of thinking bodies, constituting a proper ball of a possible model, generation by generation, between studies, theater, and social drama.

We are a conversation is a 2014 documentary directed by Alexis karpouzos and Spyros rasidakis and written by Alexis karpouzos exploring the unity of humanity, featuring poets from around the world, whose lives have been dedicated to explore the mysteries of life and existence.

Historic theaters capture the imagination with interesting architecture, lighting, and decorative lobbies. Award-winning videographer/ historian Darrell Jabin toured dozens of theaters, researched opera houses, vaudeville, movie palaces, and neighborhood theaters, and interviewed historians, theater owners and executive directors of community theaters to create a short film covering a unique part of Oregon history.

With passion, wit, intelligence and attitude, an LGBTQ youth theater group creates a play about love in all its forms, while bonding together to make change in their own lives. With candor, they tell their stories through intimate interviews, entertaining and powerful clips of their self-written plays, and glimpse into their everyday lives. Members range from a transgender woman being kicked out of her home, to a runway model who likes men’s clothing, to an out gay man accepted unconditionally by his mother. The plays they write and perform are close to their experiences and not only provide catharsis but insight into what it means to be gay, lesbian, transgender, or just queer. It’s an inspirational work of art about the hardships one faces in realizing that they are different and the courage it takes to find the pride within that.
