Super Bowl XXV, played on January 27, 1991, at Tampa Stadium in Florida, remains one of the most dramatic championship games in NFL history. The matchup featured the high-powered Buffalo Bills, making their first Super Bowl appearance, against the battle-tested New York Giants, who had previously won the title in 1986.

Super Bowl XX, played on January 26, 1986, at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, saw the Chicago Bears dominate the New England Patriots 46-10, securing their first-ever Super Bowl title. The victory capped off a remarkable season for the Bears, who finished with a 15-1 record and were considered one of the most dominant teams in NFL history.

Super Bowl XXI, played on January 25, 1987, at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, saw the New York Giants defeat the Denver Broncos 39-20, capturing their first-ever Super Bowl title. The Giants’ victory was a combination of stellar defense, efficient offense, and a strong performance from their quarterback, Phil Simms, who delivered one of the most memorable games of his career.

Super Bowl XXXI, played on January 26, 1997, at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, saw the Green Bay Packers defeat the New England Patriots 35-21. This victory ended the Packers’ 29-year championship drought and marked their return to prominence after decades of mediocrity. Led by league MVP Brett Favre and a dominant defense, Green Bay captured its third Super Bowl title, cementing itself as one of the premier franchises in NFL history.

Super Bowl XXXV, played on January 28, 2001, at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, saw the Baltimore Ravens dominate the New York Giants 34-7, securing the first Super Bowl victory in franchise history. The Giants were heavy favorites based on their two previous Super Bowl titles, but Baltimore, returning to the Super Bowl for the first time since 1971 when the Colts made the city home, had a team whose defense was considered among the strongest ever seen.

Super Bowl XXXVI, played on February 3, 2002, at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans between the AFC-champion New England Patriots and the NFC-champion St. Louis Rams, came amid celebrations of America months after the tragedies of September 2001. The Rams had won Super Bowl XXXIV and were overwhelming favorites, while the Patriots had seen starter Drew Bledsoe injured and replaced by 5th round sophomore QB Tom Brady only to see Brady injured in the AFC title game, and Bledsoe to step in and win the game. The Patriots shocked the Rams early on and had a 17-3 lead, but a late Rams rally with a touchdown from Ricky Proehl tied the score, forcing a last-minute drive by Brady for one last opportunity to win.

Super Bowl XXXVIII, played on February 1, 2004, at Reliant Stadium in Houston, was an instant classic, featuring a thrilling fourth quarter and a last-second game-winning field goal as the New England Patriots defeated the Carolina Panthers 32-29. The game, which had a slow start but an explosive finish, cemented Tom Brady’s status as an elite quarterback and gave the Patriots their second Super Bowl title in three seasons.

Super Bowl XXXIX, played on February 6, 2005, at Alltel Stadium in Jacksonville, saw the New England Patriots defeat the Philadelphia Eagles 24-21, securing their third Super Bowl title in four years and cementing their status as the NFL’s newest dynasty. The game was a hard-fought battle, featuring two elite teams and a dramatic finish, but once again, the Patriots’ poise and execution under pressure proved to be the difference.
