For several years, dozens of workers from Quebec emigrated to New Caledonia (French collectivity, Pacific) to work in the mining sector. At the same time, dozens of students from New Caledonia came to Quebec to get trained in the Cégeps of northern Quebec. While some of these people stayed in the host country and others returned to their home country. This video installation elucidates the heart of these intertwined human migrations. Within this collection of shared memories related to the feeling of belonging and the sensation of “at home”, the installation interrogates the mobility and permeability of identity boundaries and the possibility to feel “belonging together” through our respective origins.

Through experimentations in sound, camera movement and distortion, this work foreshadows the loss of innocence inherent in looming adulthood.

A few moments in the life of a young woman, torn between her daily boredom, her secret torments, and her memories of the past.

In a world where bodies are consumed like objects and appearance dictates who we are, Morgane, 17, searches for her place, torn between who she is and what is expected of her. At school as on social media, every gesture, every feature of her face, and every part of her body is evaluated or commented on. She spends her life comparing herself, conforming, without ever feeling truly herself. Caught between a desire to belong and a need for emancipation, Morgane tries to reclaim ownership of her own body and find her place without it being dictated by her image. Who is the fairest of them all shines a light on the violence of the social gaze, the pressure of appearances, and the quest of a generation determined to create its own new definition of beauty.

At a women’s clinic promising miraculous psychic healing, Patience learns the cure for her depression is more invasive than she ever imagined.
