Remake of Kurosawa's films Sanshiro Sugata and Sanshiro Sugata part 2. A young man, Sanshiro Sugata, troubled by personal problems, takes up judo. His teacher, Shogoro Yano, is a devout man who has aroused the enmity of the local practitioners of jujitsu, the older and more accepted of the two sports. Sugata uses his newly learned prowess to gain a measure of respect from others; however, Shogoro insists that the sport has a spiritual side, a lesson Sugata has yet to learn. Eventually, in hand-to-hand combat with the father of a young woman he loves, he comes to understand the true meaning of judo.

Finally, devastating fists and razor-edged weaponry collide in spectacular warfare between the two gangs. Starring the incomparable Bruce Lee [sic], in one of the most violent and vengeful roles of his career.

It starts off well enough with some nice build-up in a sprawling deserted farm town (a nice backlot on a Taiwan location) as various motley characters show up at the town's only open establishment, a tavern/inn, with some evil doings in mind. When advance men for the title bandits show up to lay the groundwork for a raid, they round up all available hostages but one. That one is the film's lone hero (Chang Yi), whose motivation is simply stated—he's there to check up on family—but no one believes him. At the thirty-minute mark, he launches into an eight-minute battle with the two bandit chieftains, hand-to-hand with one (Sammo Hung) and swordplay with the other (an actor I didn't recognize). It's a well-staged brawl and it spreads all over the empty town.

Tong causes the death of a drug lord called Lion. Years later, his vengeance obsessed son Tiger Shelly (Kim-Maree Penn) are back to settle the score. Tiger assassinates Tong and then goes after Tong's best buddy Kao Fu (Leung Kar Yan). Fu has adopted Tong's daughter Jin, who has come to stay with her new sister Min. They befriend martial arts instructor Kao Hwa (Fan Siu Wong), whose late father was also a good friend of Tong's. He looks after them as it was his Dad's wish to pay back Tong and the fight-fest begins...

All that remains of the first Samurai Town Story is the concluding battle.
