Outside a village in deep snow, there lived a boy named Kanta and his grandpa. One day, the grandpa gets sick. Kanta decides to go get firewood for his grandpa from the woodshed he is very scared of.

The boy has longed to visit the northern country and experience the beautiful mysteries of nature that his childhood friend Norman the Snowman has told him about. On the first day of snow in the northern country, the boy sneaks out of his house and boards a northbound train with Norman to see the mysteries of nature with his own eyes.

In a thick forest full of giant trees, a boy lives modestly with his family. One day, a guardian of the moon looking like a squirrel shows up in front of the boy, saying the moon got accidentally stuck on a high tree somewhere far East. This tragic story revolves around the licentious Duke of Mantua, his hunch-backed court jester Rigoletto, and Rigoletto's beautiful daughter Gilda. The opera's original title, La maledizione (The Curse), refers to the curse placed on both the Duke and Rigoletto by a courtier whose daughter had been seduced by the Duke with Rigoletto's encouragement. The curse comes to fruition when Gilda likewise falls in love with the Duke and eventually sacrifices her life to save him from the assassins hired by her father.
