When a talented young swimmer who is being bullied by some older boys on his team, he learns the value of sharing his experience with trusted adults and understanding his bullies to stop the difficult situation.

The movie, based on a story by Yuri Nagibin, depicts a young girl named Vika enjoying the last days of summer vacations in a sea resort somewhere in the south.

Thomas is turning 16. His dad's in the army and they've just moved to a town in New South Wales; his mom is pregnant; his older brother, Charlie, who's autistic, has his own adolescent sexual issues. Thomas finds Charlie an embarrassment in public, so when Thomas is attracted to Jackie, a girl in his swim class, Charlie presents any number of obstacles when she drops by their house, when the three of them go for a walk, and during a family birthday dinner. Can Thomas find a way to enter the world of teen romance and still be his brother's keeper, or is Charlie's disability going to prove more than Thomas can handle?

Michal on the other hand, is very curious, and tries to find a way to communicate with her father. They find common interest in competitive swimming, a hobby that Michal picked up, and which her father, as it turn out, used to be a serious contestant in.

A young man aspiring for recognition of his talents battles against his estranged father's sentiment towards him as the father deals with his own demons.
