Insomnies is an impressionistic look at the city at night, avoiding the clichés of commercial or tourist films and suggesting instead a lifestyle rhymed by windshield wipers and the music of The Honeymoon Killers. The film is flashing back-and-forth and ultimately leaves, like an arabesque of light and colour made of lines, curves and angles.

Two cops, R and Noma, hunt down renegade cyborgs. Cyborgs are used as commandos by the military, as lust objects and for companionship. Normaly they have a limited lifespan of three years but black market technology is being developed to be able to transfer a cyborg's artificial intelligence into human host. This drives R to find a suitable host for his expiring cyborg Ria.

Sophie, a college freshman, is seeking social acceptance from her outgoing and popular peers. Her boyfriend, Andrew, is a wide-eyed pledge for the frat Kappa Alpha Chi. After some unfortunate events, Sophie starts to see Andrew's ghost all over campus. After the protagonist's psyche begins to spiral out of control, he begins to suffer another sleepless and lonely night. Stuck in his apartment, the protagonist tries to find solutions to his insomnia.
