On the morning before the airing of the event, the Vice President of the National Wrestling Alliance stripped Christian Cage of the NWA World Heavyweight Championship and Team 3D of the NWA World Tag Team Championships due to Cage's refusal to defend the World Title in various NWA Territories. The NWA severed all ties with TNA, although the affected champions still had physical possession of the belts. The affected champions defended their "status" as champions.

Aging wrestler Randy "The Ram" Robinson is long past his prime but still ready and rarin' to go on the pro-wrestling circuit. After a particularly brutal beating, however, Randy hangs up his tights, pursues a serious relationship with a long-in-the-tooth stripper, and tries to reconnect with his estranged daughter. But he can't resist the lure of the ring and readies himself for a comeback.

2004 was a turbulent year for Ring of Honor but also one of growth & change.
