A young scientist studies the mechanics of time travel by having a conversation with a group of her future selves.

She was 29 years old, and a slave. She'd never been to school and could not read or write. She had been beaten, abused, and humiliated. One spring evening in 1849, she boldly entered into a world she had never seen, in search of a place she'd never been, hoping to find something she'd never known: freedom.
