A woman enters a bar and asks for a bit of conversation, but what she gets in return is a bunch of bad pickup lines sung to her by a cowboy and the bartender singing the cowboy's virtues.

Hank Rouser, "Big Noise Hank," as a daring stranger had called him, was mad clear through. Julius Jones had faithfully promised to return that $500 after thirty days, and now it was long past due, and not even a line from Mr. Jones. So after a little friendly persuasion, in which Hank's six-shooter was brought into prominence, the bar was effectively cleared of its patrons, despite the protests of the barkeeper, and the bully sat down to dispatch a few terse sentences to his tardy friend, upon the receipt of which, Julius, with the aid of Caleb, his old family servant, quickly packed his traveling bag and started on a little journey, which he wrote to H. Cowpoke Magpie desires marriage thinking the way to go is to write to a matrimonial agency but his buddy, Dirtyshirt finally dissuades him. However, to get even with him when they have a disagreement, he mails the agency one of the touching missives Magpie has written and filed away. It elicits a tremendous response, and the would-be brides descend upon Magpie all from the same stagecoach. Meantime he and Dirtyshirt have fallen in love with the new girl at the local store. The applicants, however, will not be denied, and pursue Magpie vigorously. Dirtyshirt and Magpie, each unknown to the other, propose to the new girl at the store and advance her the necessary money to bring her mother West. Each is to meet her at the office of the Justice of the Peace at four o'clock in the afternoon. The two arrive there at the same time only to see the fair damsel emerging with the dashing local haberdasher.

She is inclined to flirt and easily turns the foolish young cowpuncher's head, and the meeting ends with him inviting her to accompany him to the dance.

George Maxwell, a young cowboy, rescues a fever-stricken Mexican prospector and carrying him to an inn in the vicinity like a good Samaritan, pays the innkeeper a sum of money to care for the stricken man until he recovers.

Joe Fuller, the outlaw and bandit, draws rein at a humble cottage and begs refreshment. The traditional hospitality of the west is at once shown him by Jane White, who is alone in the house at the time, with her baby daughter. The bandit is given food and drink, while he is eating which, the baby takes a child-like fancy to him.

During the heat of battle in the midst of the Civil War, a beguilingly innocent colt is born to Union Jim Rabb's beloved mare. Refusing the orders to shoot it, lest it prove a hindrance, Rabb keeps the colt as a consolation in these desperate times-a symbol of hope that leads the men of the First Cavalry on a journey of self-discovery and newfound brotherhood.
