Living with Spirits: 10 Days in the Jungle with Ayahuasca

Back in 2012 I had my very first Ayahuasca ceremony and, needless to say, I was terrified. But it ended up entirely changing my life and that of my future family. Which is why I decided to revisit the medicine in 2018, participating in three Ayahuasca ceremonies over the course of one week in Costa Rica, and document the process. In the film, we tackle my personal story of trying to build London Real into a global media and transformation company while also struggling with my own disconnection from friends, family and my own species. We also dive deep into the division and tribalism currently facing all of us around the world.

As COVID-19 wreaks havoc around the planet, the family reconnect to their ancestral ways, but as news arrives that Ecuador’s lockdown will end soon, will the family choose to return?

In 2019, the Brazilian government coordinates the largest and riskiest expedition of the last decades into the Amazon rainforest to search for a group of isolated indigenous people in vulnerability and promote their first contact with non-indigenous. Bruno Pereira, who would later be murdered in the same region and turned into an international symbol in favor of the indigenous and the forest, leads the expedition.

In late 2019, Leo Houlding led a team of climbers to attempt a new route on the iconic prow of Mount Roraima in the Amazon rainforest. On the team, and on her first big wall expedition, was young Cumbrian climber, and fellow Berghaus athlete, Anna Taylor. Leo, Anna and the crew were guided through the jungle to the base of Roraima by Edward James and colleagues from the indigenous Akawaio people. For most porters on western expeditions, that was where their journey would have ended, but not this time.
