Overview

Just Mercy is a biographical legal drama film co-written and directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. Just Mercy turns out to be an emotional and vital story about the value of a person's life. Michael B. Jordan plays the main role of Bryan Stevenson.

The film shows aspiring lawyer Bryan Stevenson moving to Alabama. He takes on the cases of prisoners on death row. Stevenson sees them not as criminals but as victims of a corrupt and racist system that is not interested in understanding the nuances of what happened. One of his clients is Walter McMillian - a black man who was accused of murdering a girl.

The drama is based on real events from the life of Stevenson. Today he is known as a social activist and director of the Equal Justice Initiative. The film shows the late 1980s when Bryan felt discriminated against not only to convicts but also to himself.

The film does not center around one Walter McMillian case. The film shows his family and other prisoners with whom the main character keeps in touch. They are all united by Alabama, where slavery flourished many years ago.

At first, it seems that Just Mercy has too many legal aspects, but the film is based on real events, so the film is gradually gaining emotional momentum.
