After long absence, a man returns to his hometown only to find his best friend has become an alcoholic.

Two couples face the possibility that their infant sons, both born on the same day, were inadvertently switched at the hospital, and a chain of revelations and decisions threatens both families.

The child's older sister is quick to exploit the situation, selling blessings from the baby, and even claiming she's the true mother by virgin birth. However, when she attempts to seduce the bishop's son, the Church exacts a terrible revenge.
